El muelle del puerto, Salou
Arrival :     Nights:

Salou has recently been certified as the first official “Family Resort” in the Catalonia. This category is backed up by its 7.5 kilometres of very safe beaches – some with children’s playgrounds, entertainment, child-minding service, and a wide variety of water sports. Other things to do include the catamaran trips and sailing and diving courses offered by the Water Sports Resort organised jointly by Salou, Cambrils and Mont-roig.

The mild year-round temperatures, well kept, safe, beaches equipped with all the necessary services and facilities, clear, shallow waters, small, scenic coves in natural surroundings, a town planning that emphasises green, open spaces, plants and flowers and landscape and architectural design, places of historical, architectural and monumental interest, a wide range of leisure and entertainment activities, a dynamic commercial sector (shopping and restaurants), and quality facilities – all in Salou – the “Capital of the Costa Daurada”.

PLACES OF INTEREST

JAUME I PROMENADE
Salou’s emblematic promenade runs parallel to the Llevant beach for more than a kilometre. The monument to James I of Spain at the heart of the promenade was erected in 1965 and commemorates the day in 1229 when the king set sail from the port of Salou to re-conquer the island of Mallorca from the Moors. It is the work of the architect Ripoll and the sculptor Saumells.

TORRE VELLA
Se edificó en el año 1530 como torre de vigilancia y defensa con el objetivo de proteger Salou de los saqueos constantes de piratas y corsarios. Acoge exposiciones temporales de arte.

MASIA CATALANA
The “Catalan farmhouse” is a relatively modern structure (1974) built with traditional materials that faithfully reproduce a rural environment of times gone by. In summer it is the site of the handicrafts market and at Christmas it houses an original living nativity scene, as well as the traditional "caga tió".
Dirección: Avda. Carles Buigas, 50

MODERNISM IN SALOU
Strolling along the Jaume I Promenade we find examples of this architectural style that left its mark on the town’s emblematic houses, such as the Chalet Voramar or Casa Bonet. This magnificent house was designed by the architect Domènech Sugranyes i Gras, a follower of the master Gaudí.

ILLUMINATED FOUNTAIN
This fountain is located at the end of the Jaume I Promenade and in summer puts on a marvellous spectacle of water and light. It was designed by the architect Carles Buïgas, who also designed the Montjuic Fountain in Barcelona.

BEACHES

Salou’s beaches are without a doubt one of its main attractions, which is why they are so well looked after. There are eight beaches altogether in the resort, as well as several small coves of great natural beauty, which are more difficult to get to and therefore quieter. Many of them are surrounded by pine trees and other Mediterranean vegetation, providing an enchanting and unforgettable setting. The main beaches are:

LLEVANT BEACH
The Llevant beach is the largest in the resort at a length of some 1,200 metres and a width of 140 metres.

PONENT BEACH
The Ponent beach is one of the largest in Salou at approximately 1,100 m. long.

CAPELLANS BEACH
The Capellans beach is 220 metres long and is reached via Brusel·les Street. It has a European Blue Flag.

LLARGA BEACH
The great charm of the Llarga beach is that it is surrounded by pine trees and natural vegetation. It is 600 metres long and is reached from Replanells Street, near the Salou-Tarragona coast road.

LLENGUADETS COVE
Llenguadets is a small cove that can only be reached on foot from Torrassa Street. Like Penya-Tallada cove, it is 125 metres long and surrounded by natural vegetation.

PENYA TALLADA COVE
Penya Tallada is a small cove of great natural beauty next to Punta Roja and Penya Tallada (cliff). It is 125 metres long and is reached from Penya Tallada Street.

DE LA FONT COVE
Cala de la Font is a small cove of 75 metres long and 54 metres wide and is reached from Les Dunes Street. The cove is bordered by natural rock and has easy and safe access.

CRANCS COVE
Cala Crancs cove is the easternmost of Salou’s beaches and one of its most attractive. 85 metres long and 50 wide, it is bordered by natural rock formations.
