The people of Salou celebrate their own early version of carnival early during the Salou Winter Festival. It gets underway in the last week of January and offers a wide range of fun and entertaining activities for all ages.
The culminating moment of the festival is on the first Saturday of February at around 6 pm with the grand confetti spectacle known as the Cos Blanc. For 3 hours along a 500-metre route, the cannons provided by the town council fire off some 25 tons of confetti accompanied by a spectacle of sound and light. An impacting performance you’ll never forget!

This gastronomic event in Salou is held every year during a weekend in late March or early April.
On the Seafront Promenade (near the Yacht Club) the town’s restaurants set up stands at which they offer tastings of their best dishes for visitors to enjoy. There are also different gastronomy-related activities, such as cooking and cocktail-making workshops.

Gastrotour is another of Salou’s gastronomic events. It is usually held throughout the month of May.
It is a gastronomic route on which you will be able to enjoy different tapas specially prepared for the occasion in each of the participating establishments (restaurants, bars, cafés and ice cream parlours). A highly original way of discovering the local gastronomy.

Among the sporting events organised in the resort is Challenge Salou, an annual event dedicated to the triathlon. It consists of various trials adapted to the different levels and categories of the participants: the Half Challenge, the star of the competition (medium-distance triathlon), the Short Challenge (short-distance triathlon); the Aqua Challenge (an open-sea swimming trial); the Junior Challenge (a race for children up to 14) and the Breakfast Run, a four-kilometre festive charity race for all ages.

Salou celebrates its Summer Festival in August. The town council organises ten days of activities, events, shows, folklore and concerts, most of which take place on the Jaume I Seafront Promenade. The Summer Festival or “Golden Nights” culminates on 15 August with a spectacular firework display on the resort’s main beach, the Llevant Beach.
Each year Salou holds a mediaeval fair to commemorate the conquest of Mallorca in 1229 by King James I. This is because the king’s fleet and troops set sail for Mallorca on 5 September of that year from Salou’s beaches and coastline.
During the five days of the King James Fair an authentic mediaeval market is held in the pedestrian streets of the Old Town. It is enlivened by different performances and activities in pure mediaeval style. Moreover, to delight visitors, the restaurants of the Old Town also offer menus inspired by the local culinary recipes of the period.
The Rally RACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada is perhaps the area’s most anticipated sports event. It is held every year in October and counts towards the FIA World Rally Championship. The Rally RACC is based in Salou and its facilities are hosted in PortAventura theme park (service park, village, press room and race office) and on the Seafront Promenade you’ll find the podium and a multitude of activities revolving around the world of the motor. Over the five days it attracts a huge number of rally fans from all over the world. An event not to be missed.

In the last week of November, Salou holds it now-traditional “Festa del Calamar” (Squid Festival) with a squid fishing competition. The Squid Festival includes the Squid Gastronomic Festival organised by Salou’s restaurants, which offer succulent menus with squid as the main ingredient.
