PLACES OF INTEREST

JAIME I PROMENADE
More than a kilometre long, this seafront promenade runs parallel to the Llevant Beach. In the summer months it can be considered the heart of the resort.
Halfway along there is a monument designed by Luis M. Saumells and erected in 1965 to commemorate King Jaume of Aragon’s departure from Salou in 1229 to conquer Mallorca

TORRE VELLA
A watchtower built in 1530 to defend Salou from the constant sacking and pillaging by pirates along the Mediterranean coast. Since 1991 it has been the home of the Contemporary Enamel Museum, as well as occasional temporary exhibitions.

MASIA CATALANA(CATALAN FARMHOUSE)
In 1974 a replica of a Catalan farmhouse was built in Carles Buïgas Street using the traditional materials of the countryside. In summer a handicrafts market is held here and at Christmas it is the venue for the traditional “Living Nativity Scene” and “caga tió”.

MODERNIST SALOU
Along the Jaume I Promenade you can see several examples of houses built in the Modernist architectural style in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The most impressive is the Bonet House designed by the architect Doménech Sugranyes i Gras, a follower of Antoni Gaudí.

THE ILLUMINATED FOUNTAIN
This fountain is at one end of the Jaume I Promenade and in summer it delights visitors with a spectacle of water, light and music. It was created by the architect Carles Buïgas, who also designed the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc in Barcelona.

SALOU TENNIS CLUB
In addition to tennis, the club offers fronton, pétanque and mini-golf facilities. It also has a gym, a swimming pool and a multi-sports court.
